Betrayal: The Crisis in the Catholic Church
A really difficult read. Seeing how far the abuse extended and how much the Catholic Church fought to suppress the truth and further harm the victims. A hard read but I think its essential that the truth is known to better prevent it continuing or happening again.
Breaking: Trauma in the Newsroom
This book was co-edited by one of my university lecturers. Saying this book is quickly one of my favorites may be the wrong way to word it, but I definitely consider it an essential read for anyone looking to get involved in journalism or media production. A really interesting read and strongly recommended for any student, or working, journalist, camera operator, reporter, photographer or other media workers plus anyone who wants a better insight into the world of the press and media.
Was interesting to see how trauma can set in not just with the obvious sources such as being shot at or threatened, but even observing from a distance something traumatic. While having a strong Belfast focus from the Troubles to the modern day it also includes experiences from around the world over the decades. One of the better non-fiction books I’ve read and very eye opening.
Really insightful. I liked the fact that this book focused on the event rather than any political and ideological viewpoints or the outcome of the following investigations.
It’s written to read almost like a fiction narrative which I think makes it easier to take on board so long as you remember that it was very much based on a real event.
